Painting Shutters + Awnings on a 1941 Small Cape Cod House

Our little cape cod needed some exterior updating. The siding is white and the aluminum shutters and awnings were white with a teal trim. It wasn't the worst color choice but it was starting to chip and it was clearly brush painted, so it never looked great. We labored and stressed over colors before going with Glidden Premium Glazed Granite Exterior Latex Paint in flat finish.

We took down all four shutters and four awnings, power washed, stripped, basically started from scratch.

They were red before they were white and teal! Like, 100% red.Yikes.

After we cleaned, stripped, and cleaned some more, we primed them.

We took the same steps with the awnings. In the process we also fixed a few minor things and bent some wonky aluminum back into place.

This took all weekend. Plus part of the week, too.

And here's how odd our WWII cape cod house looks without shutters or awnings.

I love this gray. I love gray. And now... before and after!

I love it! The color adds a bold punch but doesn't overpower the house.
