The floors and hardwood stairs upstairs were not in the condition I was hoping to find them in.
They must have put down 2 rugs and just poly'd around them. So there are squares of unfinished pine up there. That was bad enough - then we got to the stairs.
Underneath the carpet was this stuff that looked like another layer of brown carpet - but it was anything but. It was some sort of god awful sheet-rubber anti-slip stuff in a hideous pattern.
And it is glued the fuck down.
Well, was. We manually removed it with hammers and chisels.
Now the lovely pine treads and toe kicks are all covered in a thick, hard, black layer of old adhesive.
